Welcome K3 Mandarin Program

Ni Hao Parents,

Welcome back to school! The new academic year will bring with it many new challenges and rewards. There will be a new name for the school, new teachers and friends to meet, and new skills to master. I hope that you will be able to share in these exciting times with friends and family.

Here are some important things to remember:
·         Drop off time is from 8:15am to 8:30am daily.
·         Please make sure you sign in and out every day.
·         PE will occur on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please bring PE appropriate shoes.
·         Library day is on Fridays. Please place checked out books back in your child’s backpack before then.
·         Bring sunscreen to keep at school and if it is sunny, apply some in the morning.
·         Bring an extra pair of shoes and clothing to keep in your child’s locker.
·         Make sure you label everything with your child’s first and last name.
·         Wear seasonally appropriate clothing and shoes.
·         Please no personal toys in the classroom.
·         If your child wishes to celebrate a birthday at school, you may send a special treat for snack time. Please let me know 3 days in advance and send all parents the ingredient list.
·         For class functions, do not bring any foods with peanuts or tree nuts due to student allergies.
·         Please always check your child’s locker during the pick-up time and ask your child to pick up their toys and put them back on the shelf before leaving the classroom.

ISD provides all school supplies, including some folders. This allows students to organize notes and class activities. All students work will be kept in binders at classroom. I will review with you at least twice a year at Parent Teacher conferences. We can review his/her work anytime and you can receive copies. ISD also provides each student a blue T-shirt and a red cap that are to be worn on field trips.

I encourage you and your child to check our Mandarin K3 Shutterfly site often for activities, events, photos, also please check out K3 blog ( http://lanyiwang.blogspot.com/ ) there are many important class documents, and contact information. I will update it with a monthly newsletter as well as provide exercises and class reminders.

Our Chinese program will continue to use Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) from K3 through 5th grade in 2014-2015 school year. Teachers have created a list of "Panda" expectations – P = Positive, A = Achievement, N = Nice, D = Discipline and A = Academics. These help to protect each student’s right to safety, learning and respect. Every student will have many chances to earn Panda prizes by demonstrating these positive behaviors.

If you have any questions or concerns at any time, contact me at lanyi.wang@isdenver.org. I look forward to a great year working with you and all students! Thank you, in advance, for your concern and support throughout the year!!!

Sincerely,

Lanyi Wang, Mandarin K3 Teacher
