Welcome MK3 2015-2016

Dear Parents,

Welcome to kindergarten! Hope your kids and you enjoyed the first week of school so far! This new academic year will bring with it interesting challenges and bountiful rewards. There will be wonderful teachers to meet, entertaining books to read, different friends to make, and many useful skills to master.

ISD provides all school supplies, including folders. This allows students to organize notes and homework (optional) that should be brought back and forth to school weekly. Every Friday all students will bring home their orange folder inside the drawers in class and bring it back Monday morning.

All students work will be kept in binders at classroom. I have labeled all items prominently with your child’s first and last name for easy identification. I will review student progress with you at least twice a year during Parent-Teacher conferences. I can pull his/her work anytime and get a copy as you need. ISD also provides each student a T-shirt and a cap which will be worn on field trips.

Class Blog: I will upload almost all the academic resources onto our blog! Weekly theme, reading and math focuses, Chinese online practice, word wall, Chinese songs & dances, useful learning resources…. everything can be found here. http://lanyiwang.blogspot.com/

Newsletter: A monthly newsletter will be sent to you by email. It will cover important dates, notes, and what we’ve learnt within the month.

Photo Release: If you have any concerns of your kids’ pictures being in our blogs, newsletter, please let me know.

Reward System:
Ø  Class Dojo: I am using an amazing behavior management website called ClassDojo(http://www.classdojo.com/). I can give positive and negative points on this website to each student in a fun way. Every Trimester, you will receive detailed behavior reports from ClassDojo. I’ve sent out invite to your emails. You can download the app (parent account) on your phone to get alerts and messages.
Ø  Panda Project: Mandarin program will continue using Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) from K3 through 5th grade in 2015-2016 school year. Teachers have created a list of "Panda" expectations – P = Positive, A = Achievement, N = Nice, D = Discipline and A = Academics. These help to protect each student’s right to safety, learning and respect. Every student will have many chances to earn Panda prizes by behaving well.

Sunscreen: It will be extremely helpful if you could help put sunscreen onto your kids every morning! Thank you!

By working together we will be able to have successful and confident graduates. I can be reached at lanyi.wang@isdenver.com. I look forward to a great year working with you and all students. Thank you in advance for your suggestions and support throughout the year!!!

Sincerely,
Lanyi Wang& Hongyan Gao
